The Phonogram Archives has used the quiet summertime to digitize all its compact cassette holdings. By means of three Marantz PMD-661 and a TASCAM Dr-100 our office was were turned into a compact cassette digitizing salon and we digitized the remaining 211 non-digitally-available compact cassettes in our holdings (amounting to about 162 hours of audio material). We made sure that the tape decks ran continuously and swapped flashcards every few tapes. From time to time we trimmed the digital files and removed lenghty silent passages before adding the files to our digital archive. We kept paper logs next to the tape decks so that all employees could independently swap tapes and start/stop the recording.
